Here’s a quick look where season three left off (if you haven’t seen it – beware! Spoilers!):
The Starks. As if Ned Stark’s death in the first season wasn’t enough, things for the Stark family in season three went from bad to abysmal. Robb Stark was betrayed at the Red Wedding, which ended in the murder of Robb, his mother Catelyn and most of the Stark army. One of the most likeable characters on the show, Arya Stark, spent season three trying to get back together with her family, only to learn that pretty much everyone’s dead. Jon Snow of the Night’s Watch was shot by Ygritte, Free Folk spearwife and also his lover. But he survives and is taken back to Castle Black.
The Lannisters. Cowardly, arrogant and sadistic Joffrey Lannister, who no longer wishes to marry Sansa Stark, the oldest daughter of the Stark family, in the end of the third season plans to marry Margaery Tyrell. Everyone’s beloved sharp-tongued dwarf, Tyrion Lannister, demanded his father Tywin to make him the heir to Casterly Rock, the Lannister’s stronghold for his victory in the battle of Blackwater Bay. But Tywin refused, and Tyrion eventually became Master of Coin. Jaime Lannister, the Kingslayer, lost his hand during his journey back to the Red Keep, which complicated his incestuous relationship with his sister Cersei.
The Targaryens. Daenerys Targaryen was freeing one city after the other in Slaver’s Bay, while her dragons grew bigger and bigger.
Known for killing off the audience’s favorite characters (Richard Madden who played Robb Stark in an interview to The Guardian said, “You get a lot of terrified actors tearing through the script, going, ‘Do I die? Do I die?!'”), the fourth season of Game of Thrones won’t disappoint. With more back-stabbing, intrigues and massive fantasy battles, there will most certainly be blood. If, of course, you want to sit on the Iron Throne of Westeros. ~Alexandra Sharova
