Keira Knightley Chanel ad banned from UK TV

After much deliberation, Keira Knightley‘s Chanel ad has been banned from UK TV – at least, during children’s television shows. The commercial – which advertises Coco’s Mademoiselle perfume – has been deemed “overtly sexual.” The ad depicts The Pirates of the Caribbean actress being photographed on a bed while the photographer helps her unzip her clothing; then she begins to undress herself. The ad aired during a showing of Ice Age: The Meltdown, causing a string of complaints from parents. The Advertising Standards Authority then stepped in and made a decision on the future of the ad. According to Entertainmentwise.com they said: “ […] there was clear sexual tension between the pair and that they [Keira and the photographer] appeared about to kiss on the bed. We considered the ad was suitable for older children, but that the sexually suggestive material was unsuitable for young children.” The ASA has asked that the current ad not be broadcast during or around programs that could attract a young audience. Other ads banned in the UK by the Advertising Standards Authority include a Marc Jacobs perfume ad featuring Dakota Fanning because she looks like a baby hooker in it and a Julia Roberts ad for being misleading.
