Kevin Zegers blows off fans

By Alexandra Heilbron on September 12, 2008 | 19 Comments

kevin_zegers.jpgFans at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival have had a great time this past week, with many A-listers going out of their way to meet them and sign autographs. Heck, Viggo Mortensen and Harry Potter‘s Jason Isaacs even braved pouring rain, arriving soaking wet at premieres because they wanted to make their fans happy. However, Kevin Zegers (yeah, we know, you’re saying who?) stunned TIFF attendees with a curt: “I’m not here for autographs.” Zegers, 23, a native Torontonian, got his start in the Air Bud movies. His biggest claim to fame so far has been playing a sexually confused teen in the low budget flick TransAmerica, which got attention when Felicity Huffman won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of a transgendered male. Zeger’s Fifty Dead Men Walking co-stars — Sir Ben Kingsley, Jim Sturgess and Rose McGowan — had no trouble signing autographs. Oscar winners Adrien BrodyTim RobbinsRachel Weisz and Benicio Del Toro graciously signed autographs. Thank goodness for other class acts such as Ethan HawkeMark Ruffalo, Evan Rachel Wood, Kate Beckinsale, Colin FirthJennifer Aniston, Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway and Mickey Rourke (to name just a few), all of whom signed autographs, showing that fans — who are the ones who buy tickets to their films, and ultimately pay their wages — really matter and are appreciated.

Very well written! Taking a few moments to sign an autograph for those for whom it would mean the world should not be such a big issue. Though I certainly understand there are situations where seeking an autograph would be inappropriate, this did not appear to be one of them. “What’s-his-name” should be ashamed of his snooty behaviour. I will go out of my way to avoid his projects, and instead lend my support to actors such as Viggo Mortensen and Jason Isaacs.

What a well written piece! I know who this actor is and was shocked to hear how he dismissed fans so easily when his co-stars ahead of him were signing happily. I’m definitely avoiding his projects. He really needs to keep his ego in check and realize he doesn’t even come close to being in the same class as his co-stars.

Intersting article, but that`s not true about Kevin Zegers. I saw him at the screening for Management with Jennifer Aniston and Steve Zahn, and he graciously signed an autograph for me and was actually quite nice and charming. He signed for a few other people as well.

Kiera Knightley and Jennifer Aniston, on the other hand, were scribbling illegible `chicken scratch` signatures with little enthusiasm.

whatever. he’s cute. its not like not signing autographs will cost him his job.

If this article is true than Kevin Zegers is obviously a very snooty actor(and he`s about the Canadian equivalent of a D-list actor anyway)I don`t care if he`s considered to be a prettyboy or a heartthrob,”cute” isn`t just about looks it`s about a person`s personality shining through their looks. Oscar winning actors and much more well-known and well-talented actors can afford to take the time to sign the autographs of fans but Kevin Zegers can`t do it?That`s funny.I just remember him from that love scene with Ellen Page in The Stone Angel and every other movie he`s been in I didn`t know about until I read this article.Mr Zegers needs to get over himself and understand that without the fans the movie industry is nothing because every one else who greeted the fans seemed to understand that but him.

Well, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and believe some of the other posters on here that he did sign some autographs. I mean, I wasn’t there and they say they were…they would know more about it than me and I definately can’t see why anyone would lie about it.

Um, first off he did take the time to sign for autographs at his premiere for ‘Fifty Dead Men Walking’ as I am amongst some who were fortune! AND was super sweet! Second, this referring to people trying to get him before his press conference which from experience are mostly autograph hounds and dealers.

wow….great to see so many stand up for him and put this report where it belongs…

interesting and quite commonly seen in these storylines, is how people will believe whatever they read – at least give the benefit of the doubt. “If this is true,” here’s what I think….

tomorrow they’ll be reporting “a close friend” witnessed Christian Bale smacking Meg Ryan’s new nose outta place while in rehab next to Heath Ledger’s ghost….

  10. Nancy • September 14, 2008 @ 7:53 PM

Well Jo-Anne, just about every article on Tribute has the phrase “a close friend” or “an inside source”…..doesn’t mean everyone who comes on here believes what is written. I come on here to read gossip and give my opinion on what the article says…whether it is true or not. If I wanted the truth I would watch the 6:00 news…and even then, who knows if it’s true or not? What I find really amusing is how you come on here and start b!tching on EVERY article!! And yet, you still don’t have a damn opinion about the article!

  11. ke • September 15, 2008 @ 10:17 AM

well Nancy, i don’t think your assessment of Jo-Anne is quite fair. her comment, for one, isn’t about THIS particular article. she’s talking about how people react to the gossip they read on this site. second, she never said people believe everything they read. if you look closer she actually says “…quite commonly seen in these story lines is how people will believe whatever they read”. i don;t think she sounded condescending or meant to offend. like you, she was just stating her opinion – except this time its about the comments and not the actual article. unlike you, however, hers isn’t directed to anyone specifically. it also didn’t contain profane words and a direct judgment of a person she didn’t know.

maybe the reason you were so offended and took it so personally is because her comment might actually be right…about some people, that is.

  12. Nancy • September 15, 2008 @ 10:35 AM

Sure, maybe her comment is right….”about some people”, but it does not “offend” me and I didn’t take it personally….just stating A FACT! Now, come on ke, you have been on this site enough times to know that Jo-Anne ALWAYS…ALWAYS makes “direct judgements of people she doesn’t know”…….do we need to see a show of hands of those who agree?? She is constantly on here telling everyone “oh, don’t believe everything you read!” Like, please! Thank you oh wise one, for telling us….we thought it was ALL oh so true!

  13. tributegirl • September 15, 2008 @ 10:44 AM

If you are asking for a show of hands, I’ll put mine up.

“like you, she was just stating her opinion – except this time its about the comments and not the actual article. unlike you, however, hers isnt directed to anyone specifically. it also didnt contain profane words and a direct judgment of a person she didnt know.”

Unfortunately, ke, this is what she does all the time, Nancy was just giving some back.

I clicked on the link about this guy named Kevin Zegers. I had no idea who he was until I saw his picture. Then I thought to myself…it’ll cost him fans and since he’s not so famous, this won’t help him one bit. Learn how to be more gracious in future Mr. Zegers. Your fans afterall are your bread and butter.

  15. Jo-Anne. • September 15, 2008 @ 5:45 PM

    thank you ke
