La La Land leads Critics’ Choice Awards 2017 nominations

La La Land stillAwards season is in full swing, and with it comes the long-awaited nominations for the 22nd annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

The highly anticipated musical La La Land leads the pack with a whopping 12 nominations, including the top prize for Best Picture, acting nods for its leads Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and a directing nod for Damien Chazelle.

Following closely behind is the sci-fi drama Arrival and recent Best Picture Gotham Award winner Moonlight, which each boast an impressive 10 nominations. They both are in the running for Best Picture, alongside Hacksaw Ridge (the film’s director Mel Gibson is also honored), Fences, Hell or High Water, Lion, Loving, Manchester by the Sea, and surprise entry Sully.

The Best Animated Feature nods are just as illustrious with Finding DoryKubo and the Two StringsMoana, The Red Turtle, Trolls, and Zootopia as the critics’ favorite family-friendly flicks.

Arguably the most competitive category of the season, Best Actress, also featured Annette Bening (20th Century Women), Natalie Portman (Jackie), Ruth Negga (Loving), Isabelle Huppert (Elle), and Amy Adams (Arrival).

The lucky winners will be revealed live at the Critics’ Choice Awards, hosted by actor T.J. Miller, airing on Sunday, Dec. 11.~Shelby Morton
