Lady Gaga called a “slut” for onstage stunt

On Monday, Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro hosted the launch of an anti-drug youth program at Staten Island’s Borough Hall – and thought it would be a good time to use “Bad Romance” pop diva Lady Gaga’s recent onstage antics to call the celeb a “‘slut.” Molinaro called Gaga out for her performance in Amsterdam last week, where she took a break to have a cigarette, which was soon after replaced by a joint thrown on stage by a fan. Although smoking marijuana is legal in Amsterdam, Molinaro used an image of Gaga smoking the joint to reinforce the program’s demand to “stop glorifying drug use in the media.” Molinaro later told the Staten Island Advance, “This slut is influencing many, many children,” adding that “these actresses, actors, ballplayers…they use drugs as if it’s nothing.” In 2006, Molinaro’s son, Stephen, died from a drug overdose — the effects of which seem to be a driving force for Molinaro’s frustration. In a statement to the The New York Times, Molinaro defended himself saying, “I looked up the word ‘slut’ to see if it was properly used before I used it,” adding, “It said ‘improper conduct’.” ~Brandon Bastaldo

I think this guy is clearly out of touch with reality. A slut? Really? And why is Lady Gaga being singled out? Hundreds of MALE rappers have videos all about weed. Seems pretty ridiculous to me….
Amanda, he is not only wrong, he is all kinds of wrong. EVERY serious study in your country has shown marijuana is neither addictive nor harmful. Watch the movie documentary Grass and then talk to me. The war on drugs has cost your country billions, but apparently, consveratives like Molinaro believe deficits don’t matter. It is appalling how much you WASTE on this frivolousness (not to mention needless aggressive wars) when legalizing marijuana would free up jail space for people who truly deserve it, as well as court time and that of the police.
Why is she a slut? Because she shows off her fit body? Because she’s proud of who she is? People are always so quick to judge. I thinks she’s a great role model!
LOL marijuana is not addictive or harmful? buddy. you are mistaken. it may not be as bad as “coke” “heroine” and “E” but it is addictive. i have people i counsel who deal with serious withdrawls from marijuana and depend on it.
I agree that maybe the punishments for it are really harsh. because i would choose marijuana over the harder drugs any day, but no country wants to be known as “Easy” and under the influence of drugs because no one will take any country or person serious if that was the case.
Also people who go through tragic events related to drug use take it very seriously and should not be mocked because you think its not harmful. why dont you look up marijuana related deaths and then speak. Dont believe everything you read. Drugs are related to gang violence and plenty of other things. The drug itself may not be harmful in peoples eyes, but tell that to people who lost loved ones due to a shooting for “weed”. Ive lost a few and its devastating.
Thats the reason governments are harsh on punishments. i think they can be a little less agressive but its an attempt to stop violence in the city.
And its just Lady Gaga. who cares.

Marijuana wouldn’t be related to gang violence if it were legal and anyone could grow it in the back yard, driving down the price.

I think that he is right. Especially people with young people as a large part of their fan base need to watch what they do. And if they think that they should be allowed to do what they want when they want…they need to either get out of the spotlight or find a way to move into a more adult fan base.
And…show me a valid long term study using the new strains of pot that shows that there are no addiction or health hazards. They don’t exist. Because the new strains are so very different than the old. They have several medical issues, and they have up to 10x the amount of tar as cigarettes. Plus it has been shown over and over that pot is psychologically addictive.
This is your brain….this is your brain on drugs….
I grew up in the sixties-seventies era and I know for a FACT that Marijuana did harm….many of my classmates who did not smoke ciggarettes but marijuana instead are now dead from cancer and other lung related issues….I personally witnessed a psychotic episode…so Lou….I don’t care how many documentaries you watch….you’re WRONG.
If he did his research and ‘SLUT’ means ‘improper conduct’, well that’s also up for interpretation. In that country whichshe was performing, if it’s legal then there was no improper conduct. Sadly, because she is a celeb and her images can be seen globally, no matter where the image originated from, then I suppose it was improper conduct for the kids back in the USA.
Re:Marijuana as not addictive?! I know many people that seem to need it morning noon and night. One friend got very over weight and lazy and his wife left him citing weed as a major contributor. So he replaced weed with weights and running and being healthy and that made him shed the lbs and increased his sex drive (apparently) and his eating habits and frequency. He’s half the man and wow, in amazing shape all in 4 months! Plus she came back to him.

b. A woman prostitute.
2. A slovenly woman; a slattern.
Lady Gaga is an entertainer period. Do I agree with the casual glorification of drug use in media or the entertainment industry- No I do not.
Is calling her a slut going to make her stop in her tracks and change her ways? No she is part of a large business that thrives on attention and generating controversy. The fact that entertainers are filling in the gap for role models and parenting shortfalls in our society is a problem. You want to send a message stop buying their products. Use your purchasing power.
I think James Molinaro was out of line, and his use of the word ‘slut’ was used in the wrong context.
As a non-pot smoker myself I think they should legalize and enforce it much like alcohol. Although my sympathies go to his son for overdosing it’s unlikely pot was the contributing factor. I can’t think of a single person that died from smoking pot. In fact the only deaths seem to come from underground dealing. It’s time to bring this industry above ground, and focus government resources on hard drugs instead.

Bravo Yvette for noting what is for me the most disturbing aspect of this article. More appalling is the fact that everyone else here seemed willing to let the “slut” definition and comment slide. All three of my dictionaries mirror your definition, not his. I do not condone her actions in the least; but am sick and tired of people, men in particular, seeking to diminish women they don’t agree with and seek to undermine by references to sluts, etc. – welcome to the 21st Century version of a witch hunt (and if you think that the witch hunts were really about “witches” do some research.
Wow. This guy is a real gentleman. Calling a woman a slut because shes proud of her body and she did something that is legal where she was. Its not her fault that his son died of a drug overdose and he shouldnt have spoken about her like that. Woow.

Also I might add that if the word slut really meant improper conduct, then Everyone of us would be a ‘slut’ because Everyone of all Human Beings on this Earth had improper conduct a few times or More in our Lives!! In other words, Who hasn’t done improper conduct in their lives??

His grandson’s conviction for severely beating up 14 yr olds should cause him to focus his sermons on examining and eradicating violence in our society, not solely on a joint Gaga choose, albeit perhaps carelessly, to enjoy on stage…
calling her a slut for smoking said joint is no different than calling him a Soprano for being Italian…..
