A scene from crime series Law & Order: Organized CrimeThe set of Law & Order: Organized Crime became a crime scene itself when a crew member was shot and killed early Tuesday morning.

Police officers investigated the filming location of Greenpoint, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York.  According to the NYPD, the victim was Johnny Pizarro, 31, a parking production assistant for the show. He was sitting in a car at around 5:15 a.m. when another man approached the vehicle, opened the door and fired multiple shots that hit his head and neck.

Pizarro was taken to Woodhull Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead.

NBC and Universal Television released a statement regarding the shooting.

“We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result,” the statement read. “We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”

As of now, police have not made any arrests. It has not been confirmed whether Pizarro and the shooter knew each other, and a motive has not been revealed.

First thing that comes to my mind is shock and second thing is why did it happen at all? Why him? Why that car and time? Did they know each other? Did the shooter want to steal the car? Was it mistaken identity? And so on. Such a tragedy but I like to know the why as much as what happened.

I wonder if it was just random. What a crazy thing to happen. I thought they’d cleaned up New York.
