Lawyer says Letterman manipulated audience

david_lettermanThe defence lawyer for CBS News producer Robert Halderman says David Letterman is “a master at manipulating audiences.” Halderman pleaded not guilty Friday to attempted first-degree grand larceny — he’s been accused of trying to extort $2 million from the talk show host to keep quiet about Letterman’s affairs. During his Thursday night show, Letterman admitted to the audience that he’d slept with female members of his staff. Gerald Shargel claims the charge against his client is “so obviously out of character to the point of not making any sense,” and said that Letterman manipulates audiences for a living and that to think he “gave the entire story and there’s nothing more to be said is simply wrong.” Shargel also said he’s looking forward to cross-examining Letterman when the case goes to trial.
