Leonardo DiCaprio has been named the highest-earning male actor in Hollywood by Forbes magazine. He beat out last year’s top earner, Johnny Depp, by making $77 million in the financial year 2010, which runs from May 2009 to May 2010. Depp made $50 million during the same time period, down $25 million from the year before. Leonardo’s films Inception and Shutter Island earned close to $1.2 billion worldwide at the box office, and Forbes says Leo not only earned a $15 million paycheck for each film, but received a share of the profits. Adam Sandler, whose recent film, Grown Ups, was his highest-grossing of all time with $271 million, ranked third with an estimated $40 million. Will Smith earned $36 million, mainly due to his hefty paycheck for the upcoming film Men in Black III. Tom Hanks rounded out the top five earners with $35 million.
