Leonardo DiCaprio reveals he never tried drugs

Leonardo DiCaprio gave a brilliant performance as reckless addict Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street, and it’s not only because of his superb acting skills. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 39-year-old actor revealed that he has never tried drugs in his life. Hollywood is known to be full of temptations, so how did a superstar like Leo steer clear from drugs? He explained that he grew up in a neighborhood where drugs, prostitutes and gangs were widespread, so Hollywood was “a walk in the park” for him. “I’d go to parties and it was there, and yeah there’s that temptation. Hollywood is a very volatile place where artists come in and they essentially say they want to belong. It’s incredibly vulnerable to be an actor and also get criticism at a young age when you’re formulating who you are. We’ve seen a lot of people fall victim to that, and it’s very unfortunate.”

The actor plays the role of a corrupt stockbrocker who indulges in a dangerous cocaine-Quaalude combo on a daily basis in the Academy Award-nominated film, and he went to none other than the real Jordan Belfort for tips on how to look and act high. “I had him rolling around on the floor for me and he was very helpful with that,” said Leo about Jordan’s coaching. The actor, along with co-star Jonah Hill, also referred to the drug expert who was on set for more tips on how to play the part. ~Yara Matar

It’s possible to have enough self control to do this. I have never tried drugs and never been black out drunk. That’s not to say I’m perfect by any stretch of the imagination but perhaps, like me, Mr. Di Caprio also fears addiction and doesn’t want to be vulnerable to losing control and not being of sound mind. Good for him.
