Letterman’s ex-mistress banned from set

Stephanie Birkitt, 34, one of two female staffers David Letterman admitted to sleeping with, has been banned from the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York where the Late Show is filmed. Birkitt began as an intern with the show in 1996 and was later promoted to David’s assistant. She appeared on the Late Show numerous times. Her ex-boyfriend, Robert Halderman, found out that she’d cheated on him with Letterman and allegedly tried to extort $2 million from the talk show host to keep quiet. According to The Telegraph, a security worker on the show said: “Security got a verbal order that she is ‘banned’ from the property for the time being.” Letterman’s company, Worldwide Pants, denies the claim, and issued the following statement: “Stephanie is on paid leave of absence … she has not been banned from the Ed Sullivan Theatre.”
