David DixonDavid Dixon’s spring 2010 collection was a feast for the eyes and according to Dixon, was inspired by many elements but one in particular: the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. So how does one make clothing inspired by Hanging Gardens? The Toronto designer—who has dressed celebrities such as Meg Ryan, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kristin Booth and Monika Schnarre—said that from his perspective it was about the incredible architectural accomplishment and also the story behind why it was built.

“I sought out fabrications and concepts from as far away as India, Spain, France and Scotland. It was important for me to create a sense of softness in the garments and braid them into this moving garden of clothes,” Dixon explains. “Keeping the color schemes of what we find in nature. How this translates to the collection is in the simplicity, fluidity and colors that are abound, similar to that of a garden, including some hidden secrets when you look closer.”

David DixonThis was apparent in some of Dixon’s pieces. Cut circles sewn together literally fluttered as if a spring breeze had passed through them as the models walked down the runaway.

His collection, including a wide array of skirts, jackets, dresses in hues of bright yellow, cobalt blue and the always-reliable black and white, were indeed ready to wear off right off the runway to the office, dinner, or black tie affair.
