null star Daniel Dae Kim’s career is taking off. He’s not only completed a role opposite Matt Damon in the feature film The Adjustment Bureau, but he’s just been cast in the remake of the hit cop series Hawaii Five-O. The Honolulu Advertiser reports that Kim will portray detective Chin Ho Kelly, who was originally played by the late Kam Fong. Kim, 41, plays Jin on ABC’s Lost, which is in its sixth and final season. The Hawaii Five-O pilot is expected to begin filming in March.

I can see it now — ruining the memory of a great stylistic show of the 70’s in order to “update” it to the unrealistic crime solving and holier-than-thou characters of shows like CSI and Law and Order. The original Hawaii Five-O was good because it didn’t rely on clever mysteries and pseudo-science, but on the effects of crime on real people, strong characters, and some great photography (the sunlight steaming through the partially closed blinds of McGarret’s office and the mood it created is an image I always remember). It was storytelling in its purest and best form.
