Love, Rosie brings star-crossed lovers to the big screen

Love, Rosie is not a proclamation of love with dramatic boombox confessions or edge-of-the-cliff gestures. It’s honest and complicated, using the cornerstone of real-life relationships. The story follows Alex (Sam Clafin) and Rosie (Lily Collins), who have been inseparable since childhood. Clearly, chemistry is brewing between the two but they’d rather not risk their friendship. So Alex asks Bethany to the high school dance, while Rosie goes with Greg. After graduating from school, they decide to go to Boston for further studies—Alex gets a scholarship to Harvard while Rosie wants to take hotel management at Boston University.

However, something keeps Rosie from being able to go to Boston, but she doesn’t want to tell Alex exactly what has happened. Instead, she lies, saying she didn’t get accepted to Boston University and promises to join him soon. It’s the beginning of a crack in their relationship.

Rosie finally realizes, “Choosing the person you want to spend the rest of your life with is one of the most important decisions any of us ever makes. Ever.” This sentiment will certainly strike a chord with the audience, as will the chemistry between Lily Collins and Sam Clafin. Lily convincingly plays the fierce and headstrong Rosie while Sam turns on the charm as Alex.

Love, Rosie might not be the epic romance you’re looking for. But you get to ride along with Alex and Rosie over the course of several years in their lives and watch them fall in love and grow apart; all the while secretly hoping they make it.

Love, Rosie is currently playing in Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary. ~Marriska Fernandes
