Mariah Carey “kidnapped” by husband

By Alexandra Heilbron on July 11, 2008 | 43 Comments

Mariah Carey and Nick CannonSince Mariah Carey married Nick Cannon, she’s been happier than ever. But Carey told Elle magazine that at one point in her life she went through such low times that she dreamt of being “kidnapped.” “When I was in an unhappy place in my life….I always wanted to be kidnapped. I just wanted a way out, but I didn’t have one,” she says. She got her wish after Cannon proposed on the rooftop of her Manhattan apartment, with a 17-carat diamond hidden inside a candy ring pop. A few days later, she says: “He sort of kidnapped me and took me on a helicopter ride,” she says. “Then he re-proposed.”

this is sooooooooo misleading, i hate seeing headlines like this, just to get people to read the stupid stories, and this one was about nothing.

  2. Anonymous • July 11, 2008 @ 8:22 AM

    crap crap crap. misleading crap

  3. Susan • July 11, 2008 @ 8:30 AM

    what she wanted….

bad journalism…if you dont think the real story will draw people in, dont boost it with misleading headlines…

  5. Max • July 11, 2008 @ 9:05 AM

DARN! This is bad journalism I was hoping it was real. But with all the stories of her legengary diva tantrums, her kidnappers would set her free just to get away from her.

  6. B.Jingle • July 11, 2008 @ 9:35 AM

Well, needless to say whether it seems like bad journalism it caught your attention! It basically is her words and dreams, the title seemed fitting for that moment….so if you weren’t interested in reading the gossip then I propose that you should write and post your own stories. This is what writers do and if it means catching your eye with something you have an interest in then the writer succeeded. Not everyone thinks the same, that’s why some people are readers and some writers..Hats off to the writers on the planet!

  7. The Duke • July 11, 2008 @ 10:08 AM

I totally agree with you B.Jingle’s.Excellent marketing/writing and double hooray for the writers. Even though people who’s reading this stuff might be annoyed, you have to take your hat off to the writers for capturing
(kidnapping- no pun intending)the attention of the curious readers. Those of you who dislike this type of journalism have to admit, the writers are pretty good at what they do.

On another note, I know we’re living in an oppionated world, but come on is it really necessary to call people who by the way you probably don’t know personally except for what’s being reported on the news by unflaterring names???

Oh by the way I’m sure you figured out SOD I’m referring to that unsavory unnessary comment. Everyones intitled to their own opinion but come on, as individuals do we really need to reduce our standards and ourselfs by using and calling others with horrid words???

Once again, congrats to the writers!!! Good stuff, good job!!! You really know how to get your audiences attention. Cheers!!!

  8. Big Mac • July 11, 2008 @ 10:13 AM

    Tribute loves ya, Mariah!

  9. The Duke • July 11, 2008 @ 10:14 AM

Oh by the way in case you`re upset with my comment SOD, just for the record I just realized I made a slight mistake on a word. The correct spelling of the word should have been opinionated. Wouldn`t want you out of anger or just being plain old upset and then you call me an unsavoury name too or think I`m not capable of correct spelling!!!! Thanks a million!!!

  10. The Duke • July 11, 2008 @ 10:30 AM

Tribute my hats off to you for deleting SOD’s unflattering comment.

  11. tristan • July 11, 2008 @ 10:36 AM

it’s so retarded when they do that…..misleading viewers to something that has nothing to do with the title.

  12. GDoe • July 11, 2008 @ 11:02 AM

Yes it was misleading, but it this was a true fact it would be all over the media and news..not hidden somewhere in the ‘options’ panel of my pc. A story about nothing once it was read.

  13. sk8tergirl • July 11, 2008 @ 11:36 AM

I thought she was really kidnapped! Change the title!

  14. Anonymous • July 11, 2008 @ 11:50 AM

kidnapped or not, who really gives a shite about her?

  15. Axel Foley • July 11, 2008 @ 11:53 AM

Oh please spare us this UTTER CRAP. This spoiled little princess doesn’t know the real meaning of hard times. Give me a F’N break.

  16. tammy • July 11, 2008 @ 12:31 PM

I wonder if Nick baught the ring with her money? 😉

  17. sod • July 11, 2008 @ 1:37 PM

    yeah hooray for censorship!

  18. Anonymous • July 11, 2008 @ 1:52 PM

The fact that anyone thought she may have actually been kidnapped saddens me as it shows the level of intelligence you all have. Did no one get the “quotations”. You may call it bad jounalism, but you ready it didn’t you. That is what I call good journalism. Go back to school people.

  19. tributegirl • July 11, 2008 @ 2:30 PM

Axel Foley, I totally agree, she is a spoiled little diva who has no idea of what “hard times” really are. She was in an unhappy place in her life? What, was her manicurist on vacation? How devastating.

  20. Amy • July 11, 2008 @ 3:33 PM

Gawd, another misleading headline. Tribute.. you should be better than this !!!! Grrrrr.

  21. editor in chief • July 11, 2008 @ 4:00 PM

Cheapest way to get a story is to invent it!… If one of my newswriter came to me with this title He would be using his creative style to update his resume! It’s very hard to be a good journalist and get good stories. But you don’t have to be Clark Kent, to be super! Just do your work!

  22. Anonymous • July 11, 2008 @ 4:14 PM

this headline was horribly…i thought she actually got kidnapped wow, to think f it i think i could do better jezzz

  23. Sue • July 11, 2008 @ 4:38 PM

Well, I only regret to saythat my wish did not come true that Mariah Carey was actually kiddapped, and we would never see or hear from her ever again. Dammit, I guess you do have to have money to get anything you ever dreamed of or wished for.

  24. Nancy • July 11, 2008 @ 7:31 PM

It’s not just Tribute, though, I read this same headline 2 days ago but not on here.

  25. The Duke • July 11, 2008 @ 8:08 PM

Responding to Anonymous who wrote comment @1.52pm if you read all comments regarding this article, you would realise myself & B.Jingle understood what this article represents. The fact the word “kidnapped” was indeed a “quotation”.

Therefore as you eliquently put it, some of us do not have to go back to school to fully comprehend the nature of this topic and what it represents.

I know alot of people are truly upset with reading misleading info & I can’t say I blame them. We’re living in a society unfortunately that is filled with alot of playing with words journalism which unfortunately sells.

People today have a tendency of wanting to believe the worst in others regardless to whoever it may be. Truth or not. That’s just human nature.

That’s why I stated earlier(and I’m not saying I agree with their methodology)the writers were very smart based on their thinking with toying with words & are probably having a huge chuckle at everyones reaction to this article. It’s clear that they achieve their goal.

From what I’ve noticed personally throughout the years, this is the kind of thing most journalist like to do and that’s what they like to call smart marketing from their view point. I agree with most of you, it really sucks.

However, you do have to agree, this article does have everyone’s pretty upset especially when you’re hearing on the news so much lately of all the sad things happening to alot of the actors/ singers/ stars etc’s lives.

I am truly happy though to read”Editor in Chief’s” comment writen @4pm , that all journalist do not take this approach of reporting.

I also suspect the mojority of journalist take the let’s play with words have tainted the real true blue journalist who have more faith in their work and ability without trickery.

To most of you, I know reading all of this stuff was truly disturbing and upseting, but you know what, don’t work yourselves up unnecessarily.

Just have a good chuckle at the writers and just say to them, “Very cute buddy!!What other creative material do you have that you think will capture our attention”. Hope my insight helps.

Meanwhile, enjoy life to the fullest & keep smiling. Besides I’ve learned if you let people get to you, you only get more wrinkles, grayhairs and more. I personally have no intention on letting anyone get me down or put me in the poor house.

If we do, we’ll all have to look for extra money to pay for botox, hairdyes and much, much more. LOL. Just keep smiling!!! Cheers!!!

  26. Casey • July 11, 2008 @ 8:51 PM

Being such a demanding diva, Mariah probably told him how to re-propose.

  27. Anonymous • July 12, 2008 @ 12:39 AM

Yeah she was kidnapped by her husband and now her husband is on America’s Most Wanted!! Please give me a break with these headlines.

  28. You • July 12, 2008 @ 9:21 AM

    Awesome legs!

  29. Anonymous (That's MY name, so don't YOU use it!) • July 12, 2008 @ 9:29 AM

    It’s no wonder everyone loves her — she’s a super-hottie! 🙂

  31. Pablo Wells • July 13, 2008 @ 1:49 AM

    Gorgeous Mariah is #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Patricia • July 13, 2008 @ 2:54 AM

You really have to feel sorry for this airhead …NOT! I don’t get these celebs, they dream about making it big then when they do they manage to screw it up! I am glad she is finally happy, but I wonder how long happy will last!

  33. Bernice • July 13, 2008 @ 6:29 AM

I love her new pantyhose collection.

  34. Wifey93 • July 13, 2008 @ 11:07 AM

Very misleading!!! I opened it cause I thought it was news.. Ya their marriages are lucky if they last anywhere from a few months(Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellwegger) or a few years Nicholas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley or Jlo and Chris Judd or Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. You almso never see stars together for a long time like Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and they aren’t even married…

  35. T.Marie • July 13, 2008 @ 5:12 PM

The word “kidnapped” is in quotations. Anyone with any sense of context can tell the word wasn’t being used literally!

Get off the computer and read a book people.

  36. M Cross • July 14, 2008 @ 8:11 AM

Sorry, it is misleading … especially considering the subject line of the Tribute email doesn’t include these quotes. It just says “Mariah Carey kidnapped”. The link to the story on the email says the same thing. I’m wondering if they added the quotes to this garbage story after people complained.

It is however a shame that an “entertainer” as “talented” as Mariah Carey is so full of her self that she’d think anyone would care about her twisted kidnapping fantasies.

  37. Anonymous • July 14, 2008 @ 9:35 AM

    I care!

  38. Bryanne • July 15, 2008 @ 1:48 PM

I think that thats really stupid.
It sounds like she just did that for attention

  39. Rachael • July 15, 2008 @ 7:51 PM

    Wha -?!?

    She wasn’t kidnapped?

    Drat.

  40. Nancy • July 23, 2008 @ 10:25 PM

I wish someone would come and kidnap the 3 musketeers! Torture them as much as they torture us….ahhhhhhh, what would life be like if we had no dreams?? 😀

  41. tammy • July 24, 2008 @ 12:01 PM

torture you? God your such a loser…

  42. tammy • July 24, 2008 @ 12:02 PM

what would life be like without people like you…aaaahhh heaven…

  43. Nancy • July 24, 2008 @ 6:24 PM

Well now, that is contradiction, Tammy! At 12:01 you called me “God” and then at 12:02 you said life would be like “heaven” without me.

As for “loser”….well, you really shouldn’t speak of yourself that way! 😀
