Mark Ruffalo, 47, gave his Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award acceptance speech via Twitter from his bed. The actor was unable to pick up his Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for The Normal Heart because he is working in London so was woken with the good news he had won the prize by wife Sunrise Coigney and their children Keen, 13, Bella, nine. and seven-year-old Odette.
Posting a picture of himself on Instagram, he wrote: ”Upon waking and hearing from my wife and kids that I won a @SAGAwards for #TheNormalHeart. Love wins tonight!”
He then took to twitter to thank his cast and co-stars on the HBO show, as well as other Screen Actors Guild members and his own team. He wrote: ”Thank you @ryanmurphy24 for giving me the incredible part! Thank you Larry Kramer teaching is all a little more about love. Thanks @MattBomer my dear friend and partner in #TheNormalHeart you were an inspiration and friend every day. Thank you @MrRPMurphy for giving me the role of a lifetime and leading me through it with grace and courage. You are great director. Thank you GLAAD! You had a hand in making all this possible. Thank to the #LGBT community. Love wins. Last but not least. Thanks to all you folks who have supported the movie and me all these years.”
Julia Roberts was particularly thrilled that Mark scooped the prize and praised her co-star when she went out to present Eddie Redmayne with his Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role trophy. She said: ”They had a wordy little tongue twister for me to start with about how wonderful actors are, but instead I just want to say, Mark Ruffalo is one outstanding actor. And I am so absolutely tickled to my toes that he won tonight. He wasn’t here! Waitin’ for that Nor’easter.”
