Mark Wahlberg lost 60 pounds for The Gambler

Mark WahlbergTwo-time Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg, 43, lost a crazy 60 pounds for his role in Rupert Wyatt’s upcoming film The Gambler. He follows in the footsteps of fellow actors Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey and Jake Gyllenhaal, who all have lost dramatic amounts of weight for their movie roles. In the upcoming film, Mark plays a literature professor with a gambling addiction who puts his own life up as collateral when he borrows money from a gangster.

At the AFI Fest premiere of the film, Mark commented to E! News about the draining process of sticking to a strict liquid diet for six weeks, only consuming eight ounces of almond milk, three times a day. “I was miserable because I like food,” Mark explained. “Then, I had to exercise for two-three hours on top of shooting a 12-hour day.”

On top of the initial pressure to lose weight, Mark told People magazine of the expectations he set for himself, saying, “My goal really was to get a pound thinner than I got in Boogie Nights, which was at 25 so it was a lot easier then than doing it at 42.” Mark reached his goal though, going from a healthy 197 to a scary 137. Kudos to Mark for succeeding in his weight loss. Not good to yoyo with your weight and body mass though.

do people not realize that he could have killed himself on that diet? i guess the movie staffers were like “oh well, if he dies, we can make a movie about his life.” if you need to lose weight for a role, you need a DOCTOR to give you a diet to follow, and there is no way in hell that a Dr. okayed this one.
