Matthew Perry shoots down Friends movie idea

Fans of the hit sitcom Friends won’t be happy – Matthew Perry, who played Chandler, has dismissed the idea of a Friends movie. The show, which ran for a decade and ended in 2004, was wildly popular and made stars of the main actors. Rumors about a reunion movie, which were fueled by a Friends skit on the Ellen DeGeneres Show featuring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Matthew, have been running wild lately. However, the actor shot down the idea, telling ABC News when asked about it, “I don’t think so. It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good. It [the show] was so terrific. If we did a movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.” Matthew also opened up about his personal issues during the run of the show, when he was addicted to drugs and alcohol. “I think I was pretty good at hiding it,” he admitted, “but you know, eventually people were aware.” He said that the media attention around him at the time helped because he couldn’t go into bars without being recognized. Now he’s opened up Perry House, which helps recovering addicts transition into the real world after they finish rehab. Although no Friends movie is in the works, Matthew has hinted that a reunion of sorts could happen at Jennifer Aniston’s wedding, which he assumes he’ll be attending.  ~Cassie Jasinski
