Michael Douglas believes prison will save his son’s life. The 65-year-old actor thinks the five-year sentence handed to Cameron, 31, for drug dealing will finally help him overcome his addiction problems and allow him to make a “fresh start” when he is released. Michael said: “My son has not been sober for this length of time since he was 13 years old. So he was going to be dead or somebody was going to kill him, and I think he has a chance to start a new life and he knows that… My son was a drug dealer, and he tried to kill himself for a while, and I can’t condone his behavior. With all the mistakes and the disease that Cameron has, he is a great young man and I wouldn’t be supporting him if I didn’t feel that way.” Douglas and ex-wife Diandra were criticized by the judge presiding over Cameron’s case for being “distant and problematic” parents during his childhood. Speaking on the Today show, Michael said: “I’ve taken blame about being a bad father — if being a bad father is working your butt off trying to create a career at one time. When I had Cameron I was early in my career and as opposed to most jobs, making movies takes you all around the world, so you were absentee in that sense.”

I wonder what disease he has?
The disease he’s referring to is the one of (drug) addiction. Apparently not exercising self control is some sort of ‘disease.’
Oh, I thought he’d picked up something sexually transmitted while in a drug haze. Anyway, nice excuse for being a bad father, Michael. He obviously feels no remorse for being a crappy parent.
He’ll have you believe sex addiction is a disease too lol
My nephew sold drugs, knew people in gangs, so when he became sober and got off of that stuff, it’s because we had a program here that helped him become clean. While he was going through that program his Dad died from lung cancer. It was really hard because they wouldnt allow him to go to the funeral. He was sober from this from 2002 to about 2009, off and on again. I was told that while he was sober he helped alot of young people come clean. He passed away on my exhusband’s birthday of last year, he was only 23 yrs old. So whether you were a great parent or not, no matter what makes you or breaks you . . .the drugs win in the end.
