mission-impossibleUndercover agents, evil villains, and cheeky chipmunks – sequels were still going strong at the box office this past weekend. But it turns out Agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his rogue team are still no match for Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and Dr. Watson (Jude Law). Since being released in theaters nationwide, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol held its number one place for the second week in a row, earning $31.3 million (all figures U.S.) and a tribute.ca visitor rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows stayed in second place, raking in $22.1 million but it’s a close call for tribute.ca viewers, who also gave it 4.2 stars. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked stayed in third place, with $18.2 million and 4.3 stars. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo dropped to number five, with $16.3 million, leaving fourth place open for War Horse, based on the book and successful stage production. It debuted Christmas day, earning $16.94 million and a 4.3 star rating.
