The new film boasts superior CGI effects to create realistic apes, unlike the old apes movies that saw people dressed in gorilla costumes. Tribute viewers gave it a high ranking of 4.5 out of 5 stars. The Smurfs held on to second place for the second weekend in a row (4.4 stars), taking in an additional $21 million, while Cowboys & Aliens (3.6 stars) dropped from the top spot to third place with $15.7 million. The new gross-out comedy The Change Up made a disappointing $13.5 million in fourth place, earning 3 stars from Tribute viewers, while Captain America: The First Avenger keeps going strong in fifth place (4.2 stars), earning an additional $13 million for a three-week total of 143 million.
