Naomi cancels appearance to mourn

Naomi WattsAustralian actress Naomi Watts was scheduled to promote her new film, Funny Games, at the Sundance Film Festival, but after hearing about Heath Ledger‘s death, she cancelled the appearance and will also not be attending the movie’s premiere. Watts and Ledger were romantically linked after meeting in 2002 on the set of the movie Ned Kelly. They were rumored to have bought a house together later that year, and to have gotten engaged, but broke up in October 2003. Watts is currently engaged to actor Liev Schreiber, with whom she has a son.

Wow Heath got around didn’t he. How many times was he engaged and didn’t get married? Hollywood is different than most people’s lives.

of course hollywood is but we keep watching & listening & putting them down for it DON”T WE????

well at least she has respect for the man more than most does. He was an excellent actor, father and a hottie..let the man rest in peace without ripping him apart like all the rest of the crew in hollywood when they pass

Wow, I think it’s very respectful of her to cancel her plans, not little plans either I might add, to mourn. Shows that at least some celebrities have some common decency. Thank you, Naomi, and rest in peace Heath.

Ya know what “crappy” Whatever Loser! So he dated a few different women, ooowww, big shit!!! You’re like totally bashing a guy you didn’t (or wouldn’t ever!) even know, even if he was still alive. So what if he was gunna move in with some other actress, and get engaged, it didn’t work, no biggie, just like a lot of (“most people’s lives”) and he moved on! Jesus, the guy was only what, like 25 years old….give’em a break!!!

Naomi Watts’ actions speak for itself. She is obviously a mature, caring individual and I applaud her for cancelling her plans to go to a premiere. One of her closest friends/boyfriends just passed away tragically and she was upset by this sad news. She needs time to mourn and attend his funeral. So many people loved Heath and at least in his short life he was loved. Indeed he was a great actor and certainly will be missed. His heart and soul has touched the world. And right now the world seems just a littler sadder without his light. May he rest in peace.

HEATH LEDGER WAS AN INCREDIBLY TALENTED ACTOR.WHAT A HUGE LOSS TO THE INDUSTRY. I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR NAOMI WATTS FOR CANCELLING SUCH AN EVENT.
HEATH WAS A WELL RESPECTED ACTOR AND PERSON.
HE WILL BE MISSED AND I’M SORRY FOR HIS LITTLE GIRL AND THE REST OF HIS FAMILY.
    MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

I’m not directing this comment to any other post here but acting is a job simply put (albeit higher paying). I’m sure she’ll rent the film from Blockbuster when it comes out. If a friend passed away would you still go to work or attend the once a year Christmas bash? Not likely. She’s no more special than you or I paying respects to someone we cared about. I’m curious as to why Tribute or the originating media source feel this is news.

If you don’t feel it is “news”, then why are u reading it?

  9. SpotMatrix • January 27, 2008 @ 4:27 PM

I’m reading it to see what people have to say about it. The comments are more interesting than the topic.

I agree with SpotMatrix. When a friend of mine passes away, I cancel my day too…no matter how important. So what’s the big deal?? Sure, it’s nice of her, but not news worthy!!

  11. Nancy • January 28, 2008 @ 11:48 PM

And, I’m sure she does not want it to be news worthy. I’m not saying she is doing this for publicity. It is actually the media I am putting down.
