Natasha Richardson honored by theater awards

natasha_richardsonLondon’s Evening Standard has renamed the Best Actress category at its annual theater awards. It will now be known as the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress in honor of the late actress, who died after hitting her head while skiing in Quebec earlier this year. Evening Standard executive director Evgeny Lebedev said: “This year we lost one of the great stage talents of our age in a tragic accident. Natasha Richardson was not only an exceptional actress but a loving mother, sister, daughter and wonderful friend. She was loved by all whose lives she touched with her radiance, kindness and unforgettable glow of talent. We hope the Evening Standard Natasha Richardson award for best actress will honor her achievements and her memory.”

hmmm. i wonder what i should think about this? on the one hand, its a very nice thing to do for her family and for her memory. on the other hand, how come shes getting special treatment? they didnt name awards after any of the others that have passed away. what about MJ and heath ledger? just to name a couple.

I think it’s probably because it’s a British award, and she was British. MJ was American, and Heath was an Aussie, wasn’t he? I think it’s very nice.

I usually don’t watch them either, but I know a lot of countries have awards for their own performers.

Here in Canada, we have the Juno Awards…GO NICKELBACK!! LOL. Sorry, to the topic now, I think this is very nice. She will be remembered for years to come.

    very nice indeed.
But the whole award thing in itself is a farce for these actors…there are too many different awards and award shows, hard to keep track of who is who and what each award is for.

I agree with you there, Carol. It would be nice to have just one awards show for each thing (music, movies, etc.)
