Neil Patrick Harris marries David Burtka

Neil Patrick Harris surprised fans with the announcement that he married fiancé David Burtka in a private ceremony in Italy over the weekend. The Tony Award-winning actor confirmed the nuptials over Twitter, including a photo of the ceremony that took place in Italy, “Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband’.”
Kelly Ripa spilled some details about the ceremony on Live with Kelly and Michael Monday morning, which was comprised of a small gathering of family and friends, saying, “It was a beautiful, beautiful family affair in Perugia, Italy. They rented a castle.”
Harris is known for his outrageous performances, so it’s no surprise that other highlights from the reception included fireworks, magic tricks and a performance from Elton John. How I Met Your Mother director and producer Pamela Fryman officiated the ceremony.
Harris and Burtka have been dating since 2004, and Harris officially came out as gay to the public in 2007. They announced their engagement in 2011, shortly after the Marriage Equality Act was passed in New York. The couple has two children together, Harper and Gideon. ~Kelly Townsend
