Netflix pulls plug on Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards

Netflix has cancelled Kevin Spacey‘s series House of Cards following allegations that he was sexually inappropriate with actor Anthony Rapp, who was 14, at a party in 1986.

The show, which is currently filming its sixth season in Baltimore, Maryland, will air its final season next year. Spacey won a Golden Globe in 2015 for his performance as Francis Underwood on the popular series.

Netflix and its producing partner, Media Rights Capital, released a joint statement earlier today that read: “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey. In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

Spacey was also cast in the title role in the upcoming Netflix original movie Gore, about a young man in Italy who meets his idol, Gore Vidal. According to Deadline.com, Netflix is currently considering putting the film on the chopping block. It was to star Douglas Booth as a young British writer who catches Vidal’s eye. ~Alexandra Heilbron

So they are ending the career of one of our finest actors because of unproved allegations from some kid. Wow, its like the Red scare of the 1950s

Career ruined? That’s too bad. Actions have consequences.

Wow. What happened to Innocent until proven guilty”? If he is guilty, throw the book at him. But should he not have a chance to defend himself against an accusation? Such a knee-jerk society we have become.

Innocent until proven guilty. Isn’t that what our judicial system is about.
He deserves his day in court. Then if he is found guilty then hang him. Until then people stop jumping on the bandwagon of the day.
    Sakes

Youve got to be kidding me. Yes, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Why was Anthony Rapp at this party at age 14? And if Im not mistaken, He said Kevin Spacey tried to seduce him which is a very broad statement. This is ridiculous

Some of you idiots are feeling bad for Spacey? He might be a pedophile, but he’s a really good actor so he should be forgiven. Let him do this to your 14 year old son and see how much you support him then.

This isn’t ending Spacey’s career. The series will end at the end of NEXT season, likely the end date anyway… so he could begin the project about Gore Vidal ironically about a man interested in a younger man… as far as a 14 year old at a Hollywood party – maybe it was a nice get-together – we shouldn’t assume it was an orgy that a 14 year old shouldn’t be at – or do we think all Hollywood parties end in bedrooms and behind couches? hmm. If any adult person takes sexual advantage over a minor it is a chargeable offense and frankly just wrong. Spacey did not say he didn’t do it – which is a tell that it was likely a common practice with him.

It would be inappropriate for him to do the Gore movie at this point, it sounds like it’s about an old guy who gets it on with a younger guy who idolizes him for his fame. Mimics Spacey’s real life in a way.

There has been talk about him for years, he’s well known for liking young men. There are countless incidents of him trying to pick up young men in bars by being really inappropriate. Also, somebody on the House of Cards production team told the Gawker website that Spacey often solicited male crew members in their early 20s for sex in his trailer.

To be fair, Spacey didn’t even really deny the allegations but instead blamed it on a time he was confused – like his road to understanding his sexuality made it okay for this behaviour to occur.

If the allegations didn’t have some truth to them, why did he feel the need to come out and excuse his own behaviours on his personal confusion. If the allegations arrived zero truth he probably would’ve denied it and carried on his closeted life.

all these people who are claiming sexual assault via social media, either file criminal charges or keep quiet…these are only allegations and studios are so paranoid after the Harvey Weinstein scandal (where they knew on several accounts that he paid off actresses to keep quiet) that they’re not wiling to risk any bad publicity at all. Anthony Rapp should’ve attempted to either file a civil suit or criminal charges against Kevin Spacey and had his day in court… Twitter, Facebook, Instagram are not the platform for these. Everyone has decided Spacey before he even made his statement, which he shouldn’t have said anything at all and has only made his own situation worse. Same can be said for claims against Jeremy Piven and any man who ‘claims’ he didn’t know what Toback, Weinstein etc were doing…say nothing = guilty/enabler, say something = not good enough. Everyone loses
