New concept images for Avatar 2 released as filming wraps up

With filming on Avatar 2 reported to have wrapped up, movie producer Jon Landau shared a concept illustration by Jonathan Bach of the Metkayina village on his personal Instagram. It’s another Na’vi village that sits near Pandora’s reefs. It looks like we’ll get to see more parts of Pandora in the upcoming sequel, moving from the jungle-like environment and exploring the planet’s coasts and waters.

It’s safe to assume that Na’vi who live in the Metkayina have different lifestyles compared to the clans that live within Pandora’s jungle, forests, and plains. For example, in the first movie we saw the Na’vi riding animals called Direhorses, whereas Na’vi who live in the Metkayina village ride aquatic dinosaur-like creatures called Ilu.

It looks like the village will be an important setting in the movie, as Jon Landau has also posted images of actress Kate Winslet filming scenes underwater.

Avatar was praised for its impressive use of CGI and modern technology, and 12 years later, James Cameron is raising the bar yet again, this time looking to improve the underwater experience for audiences. The movie was filmed using cameras capable of shooting 3D 4K images at 48 frames per second to give audiences a new sense of immersion, just as its predecessor did.

With plans of releasing up to three more movies in the Avatar franchise, the production crew this time around seems to be really focused on world-building, by giving fans concept images, a look behind the scenes, and more of the lore of Pandora and its people.

Oh but I hope that COVID-19 is finished by then and that theatres are fully open. I have so been waiting for the sequel of Avatar. I watched the original over 30 times, I just loved it. I fervently hope that any subsequent movies come out a lot quicker than after 12 years.
