Summer may be slowly coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your free time watching awesome new DVDs! There is a wide variety a genres to suit most of your needs this week.

If you’ve watched Snow White & the Huntsman, check out the prequel/sequel to the fantasy drama film — The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Want to add a bit of dark comedy to your mix? Check out the DVD for The Nice Guys, a neo-noir comedy about a pair of private eyes who investigate the apparent suicide of a porn star.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War: Evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) betrays her good sister Freya (Emily Blunt), which unleashes a formidable power in her. Freya uses this power to form an army of Huntsmen as her protectors. A war for domination breaks out between the two sisters. Freya’s top Huntsman, Eric (Chris Hemsworth), and his fellow warrior Sara (Jessica Chastain) must help Freya triumph over her evil sister.

The Nice Guys: Holland March (Ryan Gosling) is a depressed, alcoholic private detective. When a distressed woman claims to have seen her seemingly dead porn star niece, Holland is hired to find her. He believes this woman has mistaken a young girl named Amelia (Margaret Qualley) for her niece. Along with Holland’s daughter Holly (Angourie Rice) and a group of unlikely allies, they uncover a nationwide conspiracy that links Amelia to a series of deaths involving professionals in the porn industry.

Ratchet & Clank: Ratchet (James Arnold Taylor) is a spunky Lombax who yearns to leave behind his dull life as a mechanic and become a Galactic Ranger — just like his hero, Captain Qwark. Along the way, he befriends a robot named Clank (David Kaye), and they stumble across a dangerous weapon able to destroy planets. The two unlikely heroes must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called the Galactic Rangers to attempt to stop an evil alien from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy.

Maggie’s Plan: Maggie (Greta Gerwig), who wants a child, decides artificial insemination is the best option. However, no sooner has she begun the process than John (Ethan Hawke) enters her life. John, an academic, is unhappily married to Georgette (Julianne Moore) and leaves Georgette to start a life with Maggie. Maggie now has what she wanted — a daughter and John — but she isn’t happy. As a result, she rethinks her plan and concocts a new one involving John’s ex-wife.

Sunset Song: This film focuses on the lives of the Guthrie family in northeast Scotland in the early 1900s. The family is led by a patriarch (Peter Mullan) who is prone to anger and has caused his wife to retreat into silence. Their daughter Chris and her brother Will dream of freedom and escape. Freedom comes suddenly and Chris eventually finds happiness in the form of newcomer Ewan Tavendale. Unfortunately, Chris’ newfound happiness is not to be, as their lives are ultimately disrupted by the beginning of WWI.

Dark Horse: In the small town of Cefn Fforest, South Wales, a woman named Jan Vokes decides she wants to breed and raise a racehorse. She rallies friends to pool their modest resources and they wind up with a racehorse they call Dream Alliance. Dream spends the early part of his life in a common area of Cefn Fforest and the entire town gets to know him. When he reaches racing age, he’s sent to a trainer and shows unexpected promise. The Welsh townsfolk break social barriers by competing against wealthy horse owners, and form a bond with this special horse.

DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year: It’s the annual Hero of the Year ceremony at Super Hero High, and all the students are vying for the top spot. But the festivities take a sinister turn when supervillain Dark Opal and a mysterious partner in crime begin to target the heroes and steal some of their most valued possessions in order to form the ultimate weapon. Now it’s up to Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Bumblebee, and everyone at Super Hero High to stop Dark Opal’s evil plan and save the Earth from complete destruction.

The Duel: Liam Hemsworth stars as a Texas Ranger who investigates a series of murders in a small town led by a charismatic preacher played by Woody Harrelson. However, the routine undercover investigation soon turns personal for the ranger who must solve the case before he loses everything to the mysterious town.
