Kate Walsh and Liam Neeson in Honest ThiefCheck out the new DVDs, Blu-rays and streaming shows (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BritBox, Acorn TV, Sundance Now and Disney+) coming out this week, including Honest Thief starring Liam Neeson. ~Alexandra Heilbron

Honest Thief – Tom Dolan (Liam Neeson), a former demolitions expert, has over $9 million in cash from robbing banks. When he meets a woman, Annie (Kate Walsh), he doesn’t want to lie to her about his past so he calls the FBI and tells them he’ll hand over the cash in exchange for a reduced sentence. However, the agents who arrive on the scene decide to keep the money for themselves. Just as they’re holding a gun to Tom’s head, a senior FBI agent shows up and they kill him. Knowing the murder will be blamed on him, Tom goes on the run but decides to hunt down the agents to force them to confess to the murder and clear his name. Available December 29 on DVD/Blu-ray/Digital/VOD.

The Last Shift – Stanley (Richard Jenkins) has worked the night shift for 38 years at Oscar’s Chicken and Fish. He decides to finally retire, but on his last weekend at the fast food restaurant, he has to train his replacement, Jevon (Shane Paul McGhie). Stanley, a high school dropout who has watched life pass by his drive-through window, proudly details the nuances of the job to his young replacement. Meanwhile Jevon, a talented writer who’s really too smart to be flipping patties, talks to Stanley about how their labor is being exploited. A flicker of comradery sparks during the long overnight hours in a quiet kitchen. Available December 29 on DVD/Blu-ray/Digital/VOD.

Arrival – This Oscar-winning film has a 94 percent approval rating at rottentomatoes.com — our reviewer calls it “arguably one of the most thought-provoking and brilliantly executed sci-fi films in recent years.” Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the story begins as mysterious spaceships land in various locations around the world. The military hires an elite team consisting of linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams), Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) and Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker) to investigate and communicate with the aliens to find out why they’ve arrived. Begins streaming on Amazon Prime Video January 1, 2021.

First Man – Another Oscar-winner, this is the story of astronaut Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling) and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969. It follows his story from the time he’s recruited as an astronaut and moves his wife Jan (Claire Foy) and their family to Houston, where he embarks on his new career for his country. Begins streaming on Netflix January 1, 2021.
