null, 26, who was born in Los Angeles but raised in Britain since the age of four, has been chosen to play Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Although relatively unknown, Garfield has played opposite Heath Ledger in Terry Gilliam‘s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and in Lions for Lambs with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. He’ll appear in The Social Network later this year with Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg. According to Columbia Pictures, production will begin this December and Marc Webb will direct the film. Webb says, “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

I think they should have just stayed with making a fourth movie, it is way to soon for a reboot, or remake like come on!

I liked him a lot in Doctor Parnassus, but I don’t understand why they’re making another Spider-Man! The others were great, so why mess with a good thing?

Sony Pictures cancelled Spider-Man 4 because director Sam Raimi withdrew from the project reportedly due to doubt that he could meet the planned May 6, 2011 release date while upholding the film creatively.

Sony Pictures then decided to reboot the franchise with a new director and new cast, and scheduled to be released on July 3, 2012 in 3-D, ironically, over a year AFTER the release date Sony wanted Raimi to stick to. If Sony is going to wait until 2012, then why couldn’t they keep Raimi onboard? That’s a question we’ll never know the answer to.

ok cool, but I heard the idea of the reboot was to take him right back into highschool, like 15. This guy is the same age as me. Miss when it was more like a business of movies instead of flat out money. Well fingers crossed I guess.

BORING!!!! We just saw Peter Parker come out of high school. Way to soon to be going back again. Why not continue with the cast that has already proven to work and build off that story?? Seriously how many ways can u do the same story and make it interesting? Sounds like MAYBE a rental. And this is REALLY the guy they r going with?? Big thumbs down. BLAH BLAH, seen it already people. Spider-man was not in high school forever! Lets move on already. My motto is “don’t fix what isn’t broken!” If Toby wouldn’t do it then get someone else and pick up where they left off. Back to high school…….REALLY?!?!?!?!?!

I don’t get if they plan on taking Peter Parker back to high school, why wouldn’t they cast a younger actor? Nothing against their choice, but if the movies turn out to be successful, he will be to old to still be in high school. I’m just sayin’.

He looks like a combination of Topher Grace and Tobey Maguire. I just hope they don’t make it teeny boppy like Twilight.
