New Year’s Eve tops slow weekend box office

The holiday movie New Year’s Eve topped the box office during the slowest weekend so far of 2011, with an estimated take of $13.7 million (all figures U.S.). Tribute.ca users gave it 3.25 out of 5 stars. Another new movie, The Sitter, opened in second place with $10 million and 3 stars from Tribute.ca users. After three weekends at the top of the box office, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 dropped to third place, grossing an additional $7.9 million for a total domestic take of $260 million. Tribute users left positive reviews, giving it 4.1 out of 5 stars. The Muppets dropped from second to fourth place, grossing $7.1 million, with a Tribute star rating of 4.2 stars. Finally, the animated feature Arthur Christmas dropped just one spot to round out the top five, earning $6.6 million and 4 stars.

    In Quebec, the top movie of the weekend is most certainly Les Aventures de Tintin!! Saw it yesterday in 3D and it was great! The theater was full!! Thumbs up for a movie which comes like a breath of fresh air at this time of year!

    Personally I didn’t enjoy Valentine’s Day so I doubt I will see this. I find a film with this many story lines waters down the characters too much and I don’t get invested in anybody enough to actually enjoy the overall film. Guess i wasn’t the only one.

    That’s a lot of high priced movie stars. I wonder if they will make their $ back.
