Next X-Men film announced for 2016

Big news is coming for fans who just can’t get enough X-Men: Bryan Singer; director of the upcoming 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, has just announced on twitter the name of the next X-Men film after XDOFP, and the release date for it as well. The title for the upcoming X-Men is entitled X-Men: Apocalypse, with a planned release date of May 27, 2016.

X-Men fans know that Apocalypse is a powerful ancient mutant foe in the X-Men universe, whose plans for mutant supremacy are stopped by the X-Men. Apocalypse is also well known in the fan favorite X-Men comic storyline, Age of Apocalypse; set in an alternate universe where Charles Xavier died, resulting in never having formed the X-Men, and Apocalypse ruling the world.

Rumors began circling of Apocalypse being set up at the end of Days of Future Past in a mid-credit scene as being depicted as an alien, rather than a mutant. However, director Bryan Singer debunked the rumor of Apocalypse being an alien on his twitter account, but not of him being set up at the end of Days of Future Past.
