Nick Cannon diagnosed with autoimmune disease

Nick Cannon is finally opening up about his recent health scares — he was hospitalized in January for kidney failure and again several weeks later for dangerous blood clots found in his body. The entertainer, who has decided to step down from his radio show to focus on his recovery, has been informed by his doctors that the condition is “something I’m going to be living with all my life,” he told People magazine. Although his health seems to be in order now, he revealed that the cause of his kidney failure was actually an autoimmune disease that doctors found in his system and the blood clots were subsequently caused by the kidney infection. “They kind of say [my] autoimmune [disease] is – like a lupus type of thing, but no one else in my family has it,” says Cannon. For now, he’s focusing on getting well and counting his blessings. “I’m just trying to make sure I put my health first,” adding, “I feel blessed to be alive.”
