Nicolas Cage’s Joe finds financing

Rest easy, lovers of “Nouveau Shamanic”-style acting (a phrase coined by the actor himself): Nicolas Cage is lining up more projects for your viewing pleasure. Worldview Entertainment has officially come on board David Gordon Green’s newest film, Joe, which will star the infamously manic actor. Adapted for the big screen by Gary Hawkins from a novel by Larry Brown, Joe follows the story of an ex-con (Cage) who becomes an unlikely role model for a 15-year-old boy from a broken home. London-based WestEnd Films will be taking care of international sales and shopping the project to foreign buyers this week at the festival. CAA will be handling domestic rights.

“When Larry Brown wrote the novel Joe, he instantly created an iconic character of contemporary Southern literature,” Gordon Green said. “It is with great excitement that I’ve been able to work with Nicolas Cage to design an absolute and unexpected performance piece that is woven from the darkness, beauty, humor and environment of this material.”

Joe is an elevated and unapologetic drama that has great potential creatively and commercially,” commented Worldview CEO Christopher Woodrow. “David and Nic are the perfect team to put this on the big screen, and we look forward to sharing in their success.” For more of our coverage of the Toronto International Film Festival, click here. ~Devin Garabedian
