No more Warner Bros. previews

Warner Bros.Warner Bros. studios have announced that they will no longer hold advance screenings of their movies in Canada to cut down on pirated copies. ” Within the first week of a film’s release, you can almost be certain that somewhere out there a Canadian copy will show up,” said Darcy Antonellis, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Anti-Piracy Operations for Warner Bros. Entertainment, in a release. “We regret having to cancel our screenings in Canada but our studio must take steps to protect not only our branded assets but our commitment to our filmmakers and to theaters all over the world,” said Dan Fellman, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Domestic.

If that what it takes to cut down on pirating the films then do it. A lot of people think it’s not a big deal to download these films, but they are wrong. I am a projectionist at an independant theatre in Canada. We no longer run late shows through the week because the business is not there. Why? Because the same films that we are running people have aready downloaded off the Net. It’s not the big production companies that are suffering here, it’s the little guys like me. I cannot make ends meet with the pays I receive now, it’s necessary for me to look for extra work elsewhere. Rent, buy them used, borrow them from someone who owns them when they go to DVD. But please do not pirate them.
