Oprah lowest ratings in 24 years

The Oprah Winfrey Show had the lowest ratings since it debuted 24 years ago during the week of June 28. The show averaged a rating of 2.9 — it has never dropped below the 3.0 mark before. Oprah averaged 3.8 million viewers — which is almost 2 million viewers less than Judge Judy, who is becoming daytime’s reigning champ, having beaten Oprah 14 out of the past 16 weeks. Oprah was also down 15 percent from the previous week and was off 9 percent from the same week last year. Oprah is entering its 25th and final season. “Although the ratings for our summer reruns have declined since last year, ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ continues to hold its place as the No. 1 daytime talk show for the last 24 years,” a spokesperson says.

well, its nice for her that she was so popular. maybe the decline in ratings is simply because when oprah is on, people are at work?

I think it’s good that she’s stepping down next year while she’s still successful. I prefer Judge Judy as well.

Has anyone watched her show in the past few years??? No wonder there is a ratings slide…she’ll have a segment – ask two questions, cut to 6 commericals, ask another – cut to 4 commericals…commercials commercials commercials….

She is a great interviewer, but I bet her actual show is maybe 30 minutes within the hour (typically an hour long show is 40-45 minutes without commercials).

Have to get paid to pay for those world trips, huge homes and over the top lifestyle. 🙂

there’s no denying Oprah has done extremely well, no “drop” in viewership can take away her proven success….personally not a fan of her show but even less of the Judge…

My fiance is a huge Oprah fan and I mentioned this rating drop to her and she brought up an interesting point. What were Oprah’s ratings before her re-runs started? If they were higher than normal then it would stand to reason that he show would likely drop in ratings during the re-run season as more people have already seen it.

I’ve never watched her show. Have no interest in doing so.

Oprah has a spiritual depth that Judge Judy misses totally. ….she is all about punishment…Oprah is about forgiveness and growing ‘in the spirit’. She has depth…maybe most people miss it, because they are used to skimming over the surface in life and not reaching deep into their spirit for the life that is there.

maryann, maybe its not that they are “skimming over the surface in life” maybe its just that some people find that “in the spirit depth” to be a load of BS.
