Oz The Great and Powerful keeps its hold on box office

Despite the release of two new contenders, Oz The Great and Powerful topped the box office again this weekend, taking in another $42.2 million in North America. So far it has brought in approximately $280 million worldwide. The film, starring James Franco, is also highly rated by Tribute users with an average score of 4.3/5 stars. Following at a distant second was Halle Berry’s new thriller The Call with an estimated $17.1 million and an average Tribute user rating of 4.4 stars. The female-centric film had a strong opening weekend. It was originally forecast to bring in $10 million in North American ticket sales but it handily surpassed that mark and could be one of Sony’s earliest success stories of the movie season. Meanwhile, although many thought The Incredible Burt Wonderstone would give Franco’s wizard some good competition, the Carell/Carrey match up didn’t meet box office expectations. It came in  third with a disappointing $10.3 million and received a mediocre average of 3.25 stars from Tribute users. Jack the Giant Slayer stayed in the top five at fourth place with $6.2 million and an average of 4.4 stars, while Identity Thief rounded out the top five with $4.5 million and a 3.4 star rating from Tribute users. ~Cassie Jasinski

Oz does not have the same feel as the original. Witch is not scary like the original which still is in anyones top 10 villans list. Valliant effort though.
