It’s no surprise that paparazzi will do just about anything to get that money shot of a celebrity but for Justin Bieber, things just went a little too far. The pop star’s Ferrari was pulled over by California Highway Patrol for speeding on Tuesday evening and when a photog tried to get close to snap pictures, he was killed by an oncoming vehicle. The paparazzo, Chris Guerra, had reportedly been following the car all day and officers had asked him to move to the other side of the road while they tried to conduct their traffic stop. But as he tried to cross back to the other side of the street, he was hit by a car. According to gossip site TMZ, Guerra had phoned a colleague an hour before the incident to say he had seen Bieber smoking marijuana while driving earlier in the day and was pursuing the story. It turns out Bieber wasn’t even in the car — it was being driven by one of his friends with another friend in the passenger seat, which Bieber’s rep later confirmed.
“It’s really sad that people are trying to push a story without the facts so soon after this tragic accident,” the rep told TMZ. “Justin was not present or involved in this incident and the focus should remain on honoring the memory of the victim.” Bieber also released the following statement: “Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves.”
