Phoenix annoyed by dog comparison

Joaquin Phoenix is bristling at a co-star’s comments about what it was like to work with him on the crime drama We Own the Night, also starring Mark Wahlberg and Robert Duvall. According to pagesix.com, Eva Mendes, who plays Phoenix’s girlfriend in the film, said that it was “kind of like working with a puppy dog or a two-year-old.” In the December issue of Playboy, Phoenix retorts: “Had I known I was supposed to be a puppy dog, I would have been much more cute and more consistently attentive. My apologies, Eva, but I had a few other scenes that you weren’t in. This puppy dog had a lot of work to do.”
