This famous wizard is easily identifiable through his staff and strong, powerful demeanor. He acts as a peaceful guardian of men, elves and dwarves, though his methods cause a hostile relationship with Saruman. He serves as a leader to the Fellowship of the Ring and a moral conscious to those in possession of the precious item. Sir Ian McKellen has portrayed the famous wizard in all of Peter Jackson’s adaptations, despite never having read the books. It has been noted that McKellen bases his portrayal of the wizard on the author of the books, Tolkien.
