Dennis Hopper found himself out of a job after he was fired from the critically acclaimed film The Truman Show. Although creative differences were attributed to his departure, Hopper would later reveal that director Peter Weir and producer Scott Rudin were not happy with Hopper's performance as Christoph. This led them to hire Ed Harris for the role, and the decision was rewarded with an Oscar nomination.
