Like the Wayans brothers in White Chicks, John Travolta faced similar issues with his role as Edna Turnblad in 2007's Hairspray. Donning a fat suit and playing a woman, what's most distracting about the character is that even with all that layered on top of Travolta, it is apparent to audiences that it is just Travolta wearing a fat suit and makeup. His masculine features still come through strongly and it is difficult to buy into his role of Edna.
