Worst – Young Adult Dystopian Sci-Fi

With Hollywood swinging and missing on Twilight clones such as Beautiful Creatures, The Mortal Instruments, The Host, and I Am Number Four, they did manage to stumble upon a new craze thanks to Lionsgate's adaptation of the Susan Collins' young adult dystopian novel The Hunger Games. Coming off the end of the Twilight franchise and being a vehicle for rising star Jennifer Lawrence, the film was a perfect storm to launch Hollywood's latest trend. The Hunger Games (pictured) and its four sequels experienced tremendous success both financially and critically, leading to Hollywood searching for similar properties. The next series they had in line was Veronica Roth's Divergent series, but the franchise just wasn't as compelling to audiences, while others like The Fifth Wave, Ender's Game, The Giver and The Darkest Minds fell by the wayside with diminishing returns.
