Pearl Harbor (2001)

Fictitious elements in a Michael Bay film shouldn't be a surprise given his propensity to do things that are more visually appealing than they are accurate. However, his 2001 historical drama Pearl Harbor stayed as historically accurate as possible. That said, there are two major aspects in the film that they got wrong. First and foremost was Ben Affleck's Rafe McCawley joining the RAF in England before returning to Hawaii. That simply could not happen in terms of legality. The second major historical inaccuracy with this film is in the number of Japanese planes shot down during the attack on Pearl Harbor. While Japanese planes were shot down, they weren't taken out in the numbers depicted in the film.
