In order to perfectly portray the first man to ever walk on the Moon in First Man, Ryan Gosling consulted with NASA so his performance would be as true to life as possible. The agency then connected Gosling with plenty of firsthand resources who helped him become the perfect Neil Armstrong, including the astronaut’s sister and sons. He told Cinema Blend: “Neil was a very famously introspective, quiet, humble person, so the challenge was to honor that but also to create windows into what he might be or had been experiencing emotionally at the time.” We think he did a tremendous job.
