Willem Dafoe (4 Oscar Nominations)

Willem Dafoe is another veteran actor you would have thought should have an Oscar by now. With iconic roles in both commercial blockbusters and indie hits, Dafoe’s versatility as an actor has never been in question. However, in spite of an impressive four nominations over his career, he has walked away with none so far. His first nomination for Oliver Stone’s Platoon saw him lose to the venerable Michael Caine for his performance in Hannah and Her Sisters. In 2001, his performance in Shadow of the Vampire would be outdone by Benicio Del Toro in Traffic. In 2018 Dafoe came up short again for his performance in The Florida Project against Sam Rockwell’s memorable role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. His last nomination for At Eternity’s Gate saw him outdone by newcomer Rami Malek, for his portrayal of legendary music icon Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody
