Mickey Rourke

Like many actors before him, Mickey Rourke started out with promise. Diner, Nine 1/2 Weeks and Angel Heart had him on the A-list. But in 1991, he left Hollywood to pursue a boxing career. Retired three years later, he returned to supporting roles in The Rainmaker, Point Blank and The Pledge. His comeback didn't seem like a comeback however, until he received a 2009 Golden Globe award, a BAFTA award, and an Oscar nod for The Wrestler. Since then, he has stayed busy with films such as Iron Man 2 and The Expendables.

Fantastic article. While all of those actors made great come-backs, I have to say that Neil Patrick Harris had the best one (in my view). He was fantastic on How I Met Your Mother and Harold & Kumar.
