Breathe – Andy Serkis

The man best known for his remarkable performances through the use of “motion capture” in films such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, and the rebooted Planet of the Apes trilogy, finally got to showcase his skills as a director with the 2017 biopic Breathe. Based on the true story of Robin and Diana Cavendish, the film was praised for its lead performances by Claire Foy and Andrew Garfield, and the heartwarming tone. Serkis would ply his trade again in more familiar territory with Mowgli to mixed results, thanks to inconsistent CGI. Serkis doesn’t have anything on his directorial slate, but he should be given another chance, given how well the performances he’s directed were received.
