Another ending made famous by the cries of Charlton Heston! The funny thing about this particular ending is that more people are familiar with the content than they are with the context; even Saturday Night Live has parodied it. Sure, people know that soylent green is made of people, but what else do they know? This futuristic, eco-sci-fi film is worth more than its final line, sure - what with its bleak depiction of overpopulation and its allegories for contemporary living - but when your final line is as memorable and shocking as this one, it's sort of hard to ignore. Still, its context within the thematic structure of the film is perspective-altering, and it gives the film an extremely fatalistic through-line.
