The Hunger Games (2012)

Another study of our dystopian future with an iron-willed female at the helm, The Hunger Games is the big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collin's wildly popular book series of the same name. Starring It-Girl Jennifer Lawrence as the bow and arrow-wielding Katniss Everdeen, the sci-fi adventure is set in Panem, a post-modern country consisting of a prosperous main city (known as the Capitol) and 12 poverty-stricken districts. Once a year, for the twisted viewing pleasure of the Capitol, two young people from each district are chosen to compete in a televised death match called the Hunger Games. In order to save her little sister from danger, Katniss volunteers as "Tribute" for District 12 and is forced to fight for her life in a massive arena filled with unfriendly creatures, deadly traps, and more than a few blood-thirsty sociopaths.
