Mean Streets (1973)

Martin Scorsese is well known for making outstanding crime films, and this is the movie that gave him his reputation and inspired his future success. Starring the ultimate gangster bad-boy Robert De Niro as Johnny Boy, Mean Streets follows a small-time hood who struggles to succeed in Little Italy. A definite must-see in the gangster movie genre.

Those movies are all great examples. But don’t forget the classics such as “Key Largo” etc. Bogart and E.G. Robinson still the best after all these years.

You can add Casino to this list. This could almost be called mob movies. DeNiro and Pacino certainly made their mark on the genre, you can’t avoid those 2 but why would you want to.
