Based on the Broadway musical that made Jennifer Holliday a star, Dreamgirls follows a seedy music exec as he turns a trio of female singers into stars and shakes their world up when he demotes the hefty big-voiced ingénue (Jennifer Hudson) in favor of her less talented but prettier back-up singer (Beyoncé Knowles).
